Learn how to livestream to youtube from a Boardable Video Conferencing session.

I. Introduction

Boardable Video Sessions on meetings for Professional accounts can be livestreamed to Youtube. This feature is not included with the Essentials or Free service levels.

In order for a meeting to be livestreamed, it must be enabled within organization settings and manually started during the meeting.

By default, this setting is disabled.

Livestream can be enabled for all meetings, or for none. Enabling it for some meetings and not others is not supported.

II. Enable Livestream

Livestream can be enabled by organization admins only. To do so:

  1. Click Settings on the main navigation panel on the left side of the screen

  2. Click the toggle beneath Enable Streaming to turn this On

  3. Click Save

III. Start Livestream

A livestream can be started by the following users:

  • Organization admins

  • Meeting creators / owners

  • Meeting collaborators

Other attendees cannot start a livestream. To let someone start a livestream, promote them to one of those roles listed above. To learn how to do this, please see Related Articles.

To start livestreaming from a Boardable Video Conferencing session to Youtube:

  1. Go to studio.youtube.com; login if prompted

  2. Click Create

    1. Options drop down

  3. Click Go live from these options

    1. Live control menu opens

  4. Click Start next to Right Now

  5. Click Go next to Streaming Software

    1. Stream settings menu opens

      1. For the best experience, do not close this tab until after the stream is ending

  6. Click Copy next to Stream URL

    1. Stream URL is copied to clipboard

  7. In a new tab or window, log in to Boardable; do not close the tab or window with Youtube open

  8. Join or start a Boardable Video Conferencing session

  9. Click Stream from the Meeting Options menu panel

    1. Streaming menu opens

  10. Paste the URL copied during step 4 into the Stream URL text box

  11. Return to the tab or window with Youtube open

  12. Click Copy next to Stream Key

    1. Stream key is copied to clipboard

  13. Return to tab or window with Boardable open

  14. Paste the URL copied during step 10 into the Stream Key text box

  15. Select view to livestream; Grid view is default

    1. To switch to speaker view:

      1. Click Grid; options drop down

      2. Click Active speaker from these options

  16. Click Save

    1. Livestream begins on youtube, with a potential delay of up to 30-40 seconds

III. View and Share Livestream

There are a couple ways to open and share a livestreamed video:

From Address Bar

To get a link to the livestream in the quickest possible way, use the contents of the address bar at Youtube's Stream Settings menu.

  1. Go to the tab or window with Youtube's Stream Settings menu open

  2. Copy the content of the address bar between "https://studio." and "/livestreaming"

    1. Do not include the dot (.) or slash (/) in copied content

    2. Shareable URL for livestream is copied

      1. To view livestream, paste this URL in a new tab or window

      2. To share livestream, paste this URL in a message to desired recipients

From Share Button

To get a link to the livestream with easy options to share to popular platforms:

  1. Go to the tab or window with Youtube's Stream Settings menu open

  2. Click Share (β†’) at the top right side of the page

    1. Share livestream menu opens

  3. Click desired way to share

    1. To share to a specific platform, click platform logo beneath Share a link

    2. To copy a link to share, click Copy (❏) next to Video Link

IV. End Livestream

To end a livestream:

  1. Go to the tab or window with Youtube's Stream Settings menu open

  2. Click End Stream

    1. Stream is ended

    2. Visitors to video page will see a finite video the length of the stream
