Before You Begin
Private agenda items allow organizations to publish a single agenda that serves both the board and the public while protecting sensitive information. When enabled, this feature hides selected agenda content from your public site while keeping it visible to logged-in board members.
Private agenda items are available only for meetings that are connected to the public site. They are not intended for internal-only meetings.
Only sub-items can be marked private. Top-level agenda items always remain public.
How Private Agenda Items Work
When a sub-item is marked private:
-
The public site displays the sub-item title only.
-
The sub-item description and any attached documents are hidden from the public.
-
All content nested under the private sub-item is hidden as well.
- Board members with access to the meeting can view all private information when logged in.
- A red “Private” tag appears next to the item for logged-in board members, indicating that the item contains restricted information.
Mark a Sub-Item as Private
-
Open the meeting that is linked to your public site.
-
Navigate to the agenda.
-
Select the sub-item you want to make private.
-
Locate the Mark as Private toggle on the upper left-hand side of the editor panel.
-
Turn on the toggle to mark the item private.
-
The sub-item immediately becomes hidden on the public site, except for its title.
-
Any child content attached to the private item is also removed from public view.
Customize Titles for Private Items
Because private sub-item titles remain visible to the public, choose wording carefully.
-
If the true title should not be seen publicly, use a generic label such as “Closed Session”, “Executive Discussion”, or “Confidential Item.”
This ensures the public understands that an agenda item exists but does not have access to sensitive details.
Troubleshooting
I don’t see an option to mark top-level items private.
Only sub-items can be private. Top-level items must remain visible to support the public-facing agenda structure.
My private sub-item is still showing details on the public site.
Confirm that the private toggle is enabled on the sub-item, not the parent item. Everything under the private sub-item should hide automatically.
